Background:
Betsy and Greg were introduced by a mutual friend who felt their combined talents could form a multi-faceted design firm with Betsy’s expertise in antiques and retail and Greg’s years of experience in residential and commercial interior design. From there Franklin Street Design emerged in 2005 out of Betsy’s existing Peacock Alley storefront in Chapel Hill, NC and Greg’s reputable design studio. The launch of Franklin Street Design created a unique firm capable of offering from “soup to nuts” for the home.
Partner Betsy Hayes
Betsy’s thirty-plus years as an antique buyer, shop owner, and interior designer have firmly rooted her design approach in creating sumptuous and sophisticated, yet highly livable interiors. Her travels far and wide have enhanced her appreciation for a wide variety of decorative styles and deepened her true love for architecture and antiques. Betsy has owned Peacock Alley, Franklin Street Design’s sister company, for 20 years and her expertise in fine linens, china, antiques is a valued asset to the design firm’s repertoire. She frequent travels on buying trips to scout out the perfect piece for a client or to come across a hidden gem for the store sales floor. Betsy’s honed eye for color and merited sense of style make her designs truly unique and desirable.Betsy judges the
success of all projects by a seamless union of her design input with a space that genuinely reflects the homeowner.
Partner Greg Tuchek
Greg has been in the design field for over twenty five years. He acquired an appreciation for fine art and antiques at an early age while traveling the world with his family. He further honed his sense of design, decorative arts, and architecture while attending school in historic Charleston, SC, a truly inspirational and celebrated city. Greg takes pride in his attention to detail and technical execution, while valuing the artistic and aesthetic aspects of a project. Whether the project is new construction, renovation, or a room re-do, he embraces the idea of responsible design that meets the client’s desires and needs. Greg is able to execute an eclectic and diverse range of looks instead of being limited to a specific or singular style. He likes to incorporate the consistent high quality and expertise to all of his projects, and takes pride in using local craftsmen whenever possible. Greg’s natural eye, earned reputation, and extensive experience create a perfect combination to make each of his client’s house their home.
Kirsten Paul
Kirsten grew up in a home that was constantly evolving in its interior design due to her creative and eclectic parents. Her family’s free time was spent traveling, antiquing and often both at the same time. Kirsten’s travels throughout Europe, visits to endless museums, and tours of historical homes deepened her love and appreciation of design and antiques at an early age. Immediately following her graduation from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, she moved to Charleston, SC to pursue her true passion, interior design. Kirsten’s work with two different Charleston design firms honed her technical and business sides of the design field which complimented her natural creative talent. She joined Franklin Street Design in the fall of 2007 with a fresh yet functional eye. Kirsten’s innate ability to listen to her client’s needs and wants and create a room to her design standards and the client’s liking makes her a successful designer.
